Project summary

The project consists in the realisation of 3 Sabir Project residences: the first during the Mahdia Improvise festival (from 10.10.2024 to 13.10.2024 in Mahdia- Tunis), the second during the Wonder Improv Festival (from 21.09.2024 - 24.09.2024 in Paris - France) and the third during the launch of the 14 Edition of Tolfama International Festival of Improvised Arts in 2025 (from 15.05.2025 to 18.05.2025, in Rome-Italy). Following the residency carried out in Valletta in the context of the first Effea call, the Sabir collective managed to consolidate its identity significantly, both at artistic and team level developing the function and value of the art of improvisation theatre as a bridge of exchange, dialogue and harmony between different cultures and genders.

Sabir Project Collective

Biography: Sabir Project is a collective formed in 2016 and made up of 15 theatrical improvisers from 9 Mediterranean Countries: Italy, Turkey, Malta, Spain, Algeria, France, Algeria, Greece and Tunisia. The "lingua franca" or "Sabir" was an unofficial language used in the Mediterranean basin between the eleventh and nineteenth centuries. All Improvisers of the Sabir Collective come from different backgrounds and tell stories that they make spontaneously, thanks to the shared collective mind that they form on the stage with the collaboration of the audience. They are all from Mediterranean countries but from different cultures with, at the same time, strong shared history and roots. They believe that this diversity is our most precious heritage.
