Project summary

Polina Piddubna's residency project supports her journey into the animation industry while enriching the broader artistic landscape. With guidance from leading and partner film festivals in Germany and Ukraine, Polina advances her animation documentaries and shares her research on "Decolonial Animation" through lectures, workshops, and screenings at the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin 2024. Through collaborations and community engagement, Polina empowers displaced Ukrainian youth and amplifies under-represented voices. With activities including animation workshops and new film development, Polina's residency promises significant contributions to the artistic field while raising awareness of Ukraine's cultural heritage.

Polina Piddubna

Biography: Polina Piddubna, born in 2000 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, is an animation director, educator and activist. From 2017 to 2019 she studied animation directing at Kyiv National Karpenko-Karyi University and from 2019 until 2023 Polina was enrolled in the animation faculty of Filmuniversity Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam. Her practice spreads over a wide variety of disciplines, with a strong emphasis on social work and alternative education. In her art, Polina reflects on the topics of decolonisation and the dynamics in society, by combining them with magic realism.
