Project summary

Thanks to support from EFFEA AMUZ (Flanders Festival Antwerp) will host the Discovery Residency of the young female vocal ensemble Contre le Temps that focuses on mediaeval vocal repertoire, both religious music and secular. Their residency offers them the opportunity to dig into the repertoire while being coached by expert Sabine Lutzenbergen (PER-SONAT, Huelgas Ensemble…). The results will be heard during their performances at AMUZ (Flanders Festival Antwerp) on 24 November 2024 and at the York Early Music Christmas Festival on 14 December 2024.

Contre le Temps

Biography: Contre le Temps is a female vocal ensemble specialising in medieval music, founded in Basel in 2019 by Julia Marty, Cécile Walch, Karin Weston, and Amy Farnell. The ensemble interprets a variety of musical genres from the 11th to the 16th centuries, blending personal musical sensibilities with historically informed knowledge of period sources. The group works democratically, without a single director, embracing the slow process necessary for creating their sound. Their approach allows them to delve deeper into the music and offers them the opportunity to rediscover a different sense of time.
Contre le Temps is active throughout Europe. The ensemble recently won the Audience Award and Second Prize and the Organisatie Oude Muziek Prize at the Van Wassenaer competition in the Netherlands.
