Project summary

NOISES is a solo performance that explores how awakening the expression of rage might reactivate it as a noise maker, a disturber and a protagonist for our current time. NOISES draws inspiration from the archive of the artist Meir Eshel Absalon, and the final video work he created before he died from HIV-AIDS in 1993. In his work, the artist is captured repeatedly screaming into the camera to the point of complete exhaustion. In relating this rage and scream, NOISES asks: is it possible to conjure and embody inherited rage? What are the potential transformative qualities and consequences of embodying the margins of emotion contained within an archive? In NOISES, rich soundscapes, video projections, and an evolving scenography of movement will set the stage for a performance in three parts.
