Project summary

Alex Franz Zehetbauer will undertake a development residency for his performative recital “An Evening With” at Warehouse 9 (Copenhagen), connecting with local queer communities. He will then present it in the context of the International Performance Art Festival (IPAF), Copenhagen & BUZZCUT Festival, Glasgow; two Festivals which specialise in creating international pathways & platforms for early career LGBTQIA+ artists working in experimental performance & performance art. An Evening With is a performative recital that transforms the format of the classical concert of vocalist at the piano. Traversing different moods and registers, from poetic lullaby to folk song to pop rendition, An Evening with investigates the multiple roles of songs and their cultural impacts.

Artist

Alex Franz Zehetbauer

Biography: Alex Franz Zehetbauer (*1990 in Brooklyn) is a sonic choreographer, performance artist, and singer currently based in Vienna. Critics have called him: an angel, a swamp monster, and a red-eyed demon.

Alex has collaborated with artists such as Phillip Gehmacher, Jen Rosenblit, Taylor Mac, Richard Foreman, Alix Eynaudi and Marta Navaridas. He has been awarded the BKAStartstipendium für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (2018) and the danceWEB Scholarship (2019).

His works have been shown at brut Wien [AT], The Brick Theater [US/NY], Wien Modern [AT], Les Urbaines [CH], FFT Düsseldorf [DE], Šiauliai Art Gallery [LT], fjk3 – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst [AT], Theater aan Zee [BE], La Strada Graz [AT], among others.
