Project summary

Dr. Marina Liontou Mochament is an oud player, composer and artistic researcher. Her performance and research interests span from early 20th century urban music to contemporary modal music performance and composition. For this residency, she will collaborate with Volax Festival in a project inspired by the eerie village of Volax: past and almost obsolete modal traditions of a remote frontier village coexist with music and musicians coming from all-over the world. The coexistence of the past and present in a rural distant space triggered the artist’s inspiration to create a project where the creative synergy of past and present will be transferred to a contemporary modal music work, encompassing improvised and pre-composed original material.
