The second EFFEA call grants 50 residency projects to festivals to support emerging artists
The results of the second call of EFFEA, the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists, are now in: 50 residencies will be supported. EFFEA is a project led by the European Festivals Association (EFA) that offers emerging artists a platform to develop their career on an international level under the wings of arts festivals.
The second round of EFFEA grants will support 173 festivals and 50 artists (individuals, duos, companies, ensembles or groups) from 36 countries and 14 artistic disciplines. 50 projects were selected in two categories of residencies, Discovery and Springboard, receiving respectively €8.000 and €15.000, to support the work of emerging artists through a residency programme between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024. Each residency will be presented on the EFFEA website with information about the project and the artists.
EFFEA is an invitation for co-operation between festivals across borders. Each project consists of a collaboration between minimum of 3 festivals - a leading festival and at least two partner festivals - from three different countries. The system enables festivals to work more closely together, providing emerging artists a greater European expertise and international exposure.
EFFEA is a 3-year project. The third call for festivals to support emerging artists will open beginning of 2024. Approximately 50 residencies will be selected for the last EFFEA call.
“The Fund is EFA’s project dedicated to festivals and emerging artists. It gives artists a sacred time and space within festivals to explore and experiment new ideas that will then be taken to the European level.”, says Jan Briers, President of EFA.
“The power of novelty and unique discourse of emerging artists is unparalleled. It is something which is unique and very much needed in Europe at this time. The EFFEA artists and festivals are becoming a family.”, comments Haris Pašović, Chair of the EFFEA Jury.
