Project summary

The project is articulated around Florentin Ginot and two young composers (one female to respect gender parity) presented by the two partner festivals: George Cziffra Festival (Hungary) and Estoril Lisbon Festival (Portugal). Firstly, online work sessions will be organised to prepare the residency which will take place in Saint Denis, France. During the residency, the two young composers and Florentin Ginot will all work together to start a writing process specific to an instrument that is rarely given centre stage: the double bass. A work in progress presentation will be part of the Festival de Saint Denis activities as well as an online workshop presented to programmers from each country, gathered by each festival, which will help the circulation of the artists’ work.

Florentin Ginot

Biography: Florentin Ginot lives and works in Paris and Cologne. After graduating from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, he became a Laureate of the Banque Populaire Foundation’s emerging artists program.
In 2017 he founded HowNow, a company developing innovative artistic forms
based on modern music into scenic forms, alongside dance, theatre and circus.
Since 2019, he initiates collaborations with artists such as Helge Sten, Valérie Dréville
or Kamilya Jubran to create hybrid projects : Instantanés vol. 1 : Folia, Zig Bang, Dead
trees give no shelter.
In 2020, he was awarded "Music revelation of the year" by the Arts Journalists
Syndicate.
His first solo album, Bach - Biber, was released in 2022 (NoMadMusic).
