Project summary

The Festival REGARDS CROISÉS | BEGIRADA GURUTZAUAK | MIRADAS CRUZADAS BIARRITZ (leading festival), together with REGARDS CROISÉS | BEGIRADA GURUTZAUAK | MIRADAS CRUZADAS BILBAO / La Fundicion Bilbao (partner festival), and REGARDS CROISÉS PORTUGAL / KALE Cooperativa Cultural (partner festival), invite the dance company from the Portuguese partner, KALE COMPANHIA DE DANÇA to present a new programme, born out of the vision of 3 choreographers from each of the countries represented - France (David Gernez and Lucie Augeai), Basque Country/Spain (Judith Argomaniz) and Portugal (Pedro Ramos), to develop an original creation for the company's young emergent performers.

Biography: KALE is a development platform for contemporary dance, promoting and allowing young performers to choreographers with distinct physical and artistic languages, stimuli and conceptions of dance. Since 2013, as a professional dance company, KALE has worked with several emerging choreographers, e.g. Daniela Cruz, Hamid Ben Mahi, Igor Calonge, André Mesquita, Matxalen Bilbao, La Tierce, Christine Hassid, Hélder Seabra, Osa+Mujika, Gilles Baron, Olatz de Andrés, Paula Moreno, Eldad Ben Sasson, Isabel Ariel, Elisabeth Lambeck, Giselle Rodrigues, Paula Águas, et al. She has performed in Armazém22, but also in theaters of national relevance, e.g. Casa das Artes de Famalicão, Auditório Carlos do Carmo Lagoa, Cineteatro Alba and Teatro Diogo Bernardes, et al. and internationally, namely Le Colysée, Biarritz and Pole Culturel Evasion, Ambarés. In 2020, KALE started a new dialectic in the area of contemporary dance as a vehicle for social inclusion, working with choreographers such as Aldara Bizarro and Rafael Alvarez. Since 2018, KALE is part of the “Danse qui Danse” network, together with partners Matter Affects (NL), Malandain Ballet Biarritz (FR), Dansk DanseTeater (DM), Scenario Pubblico / Compagnia Zappalà Danza (IT) and National Moravian-Silesian Ballet Company (CZ).
